Can-Am Off-Road 2013 Demo Tour

Interested in taking a spin one of the new Can-Am off road vehicles? Well the Can-Am demo truck is coming to Hidden Falls Adventure Park (just outside of Marble Falls, TX)

Take a test ride on some of the new 2013 ATVs and side-by-side vehicles, including the all new 101-hp Can-Am Maverick.

The demo truck will be at Hidden Falls on Saturday, March 30th, and Sunday, March 31st. Demo slots are limited, so be sure to sign up in advance if you plan to head out to the park. The sign up form can be found here. The registration system will send you an email confirming your reservation. If you do not receive a confirmation email, you are not signed up to ride.

Polaris Sportsman 400 H.O. SE

Today Polaris released a new ATV for 2013. Called the Sportsman 400 H.O. South Edition, this ATV has some unique features that cater to the needs of the Southern customer.

Special features include

A new lower seat height set at 31.5″
24″ Carlisle tires
A tighter turning radius than the standard Sportsman 400
A front storage box
Steel framed Lock & Ride racks with multiple tie down points

This new model will be available at Woods Cycle Country in late February and will only be available in green.

Great Deals on 2013 Polaris Rangers and Sportsman

Paris to Dakar Race – January 5th to 19th 2013

The 2013 Paris to Dakar race is currently underway. This year’s race started on January 5th, and will run all of the way through January 19th.

This year’s started in Peru, will wind through Argentina, and will finally end up in Chili.

The racing is made up of four classes of vehicles

Trucks (these are huge over-sized trucks, more like support vehicles)

Quads

Mud Buddys – Deep Mud Testing

Some of the Woods Cycle Country sales staff decided to buy new Kawasaki Brute Force 750 ATV’s, and then outfit them with big wheels, oversize tires, and snorkel kits. Once that was done, the best place to test them out was Mud Buddys.

If you haven’t been out to Mud Buddys then you should make the time to make it out there one weekend. It’s a blast if you have a cool quad, and if not, it’s just fun to people watch.

ATV Youth Models and Age Restrictions

Christmas is the time when some lucky children receive their first ATVs, and while we love to sell stuff, safety always comes first. Many customers are unaware of the federal guidelines and the CPSC guidelines which govern the sales of youth model ATV’s (and even full size ATV’s that could be operated by children).

It is a violation of Federal law for the OEM’s (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, Can-Am) to sell ATV’s to children who are younger than age limits defined by the government. Therefore, it is against Federal law for dealerships to sell ATVs to customers who we have determined will not abide by those age limits.

Current guidelines and ATV classifications are as such

Y-6+
- Age 6 or older
- Maximum restricted speed – 10 mph or less
- Maximum unrestricted speed – 15 mph
Y-10+
- Age 10 or older
- Maximum restricted speed – 15 mph or less
- Maximum unrestricted speed – 30 mph
Y-12+
- Age 12 or older
- Maximum restricted speed – 15 mph or less
- Maximum unrestricted speed – 30 mph
T
- Age 14 or older
- Maximum restricted speed – 30 mph or less
- Maximum unrestricted speed – 38 mph
G
- Age 16 or older
- Recreational and utility use ATVs
S
- Age 16 or older
- Recreational use ATVs

Currently there are no ATV’s designed for children under the age of 6. A better option for children of this age is a small youth model motorcycle (such as a Yamaha TTR50) which is outfitted with training wheels and a throttle limiter.

Also note that the engine size of youth model ATV’s is not the only determining factor in the age classifications of those vehicles. Each manufacturer is required to certify each model of ATV into a particular classification, and each ATV will have that decal firmly affixed to it.
